Knowledge database: What is diabetes?

Answer: Fasting plasma glucose ≥126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or HbA1c≥6.5%, or 2-h plasma glucose ≥200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) during an oral glucose tolerance test, or a random plasma glucose ≥200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) with classic symptoms. If a patient meets the criterion for HbA1c (two results ≥6.5%) but not FPG (<126 mg/dL or 7.0 mmol/L), or vice versa, that person should still be considered to have diabetes.
